Positives:

  • Free and open: No entry fee and no time restrictions—visit when it suits your baby’s schedule.
  • Flat, stable ground: Smooth pavements around the gate make pushing strollers easy.
  • Quiet corner of town: Fewer tourists midday mean peaceful rest spots by the canal.

Challenges:

  • No on-site facilities: Gentpoort lacks toilets, baby-changing tables and indoor shelter.
  • Exposed to weather: No covered areas—rain or strong sun can affect comfort.

A medieval city gate, one of the four gates that still remain of the medieval fortifications of Bruges.

This magnificent guard tower from the 1200s still holds a dominating presence! Recommended to see at night as it’s so wonderfully lit up, just remember it is actively used so bikes and cars are going through and around it. A shame you can’t go inside, but it’s a wonderful thing to go by as part of a tour around the ring of Bruges.

Great historical spot along the outer trail of Bruges. The building there is in great shape for its age and the bridge might go up when you're there!
