Positives:

  • Intimate art setting: The church’s moderate size keeps crowds low, letting couples enjoy artworks quietly.
  • Central location: Located steps from Grote Markt, you can extend your walk through Antwerp’s historic center after your visit.

Challenges:

  • Limited hours off-season: Guided tours only run on weekends from November to March, so weekday visits have fewer options.
  • Language signage: Most interpretive panels are in Dutch, so non-Dutch speakers may need to rely on the guide.

The exterior piece of “sculpture” adjoining the side of the church is quite something, the idea was to bring ‘Jerusalem’ to the faithful in Antwerp. The garden is worth asking the guides about. The inside is ornate from the row of confessionals to the pulpit, with many works of art on the walls.
