As a zoo situated near the Alps, there are two things to keep in mind; firstly, this is easily one of the most scenic zoos I've ever visited, with wonderful views of the mountains. And second, it's on the side of a steep cliff, which is incorporated into rhe exhibits of many of the animals. Now, while this zoo is missing favourites like giraffes or great apes, it still has many charismatic animals...

This has to be one of my new favourite zoos! It follows a linear path got round in about 2.5h. I came on a Wednesday and it was pretty quiet sometimes I even had parts to myself! The enclosures are enriching for each species! I found that nearly all the animals I saw here came right up to the glass it was amazing! Some animals such as the snow leopard were sleeping on the walk up but on the way ou...

We were very happy with the visit in the ZOO garden. ZOO can be easily reached by the public transport from Salzburg and it's located in a very lovely area. We saw many animals except big cats :) Also the services available in the garden are nice and overall we had very good impression. If you have the Salzburg card, the public transport as well as entry are free of charge.

What shall I say? Salzburg Zoo is a must go. This was a highlight of my entire visit of the beautiful city of Salzburg. Animals have such a healthy lovely life there. The view of the mountains is astonishing! I am so glad I was able to visit this place. With Salzburg card the admission is free, otherwise is very affordable and worths the visit! Sofya

Well it was much more then we expected. Good place to pass 3-4 hours with the kids. We gave them the map and follow them.. bring food and water with you and make it a great day!
Zoo is busiest in summer (Jun–Aug); visit on weekday mornings to avoid crowds. In winter (Nov–Feb) some outdoor enclosures close and hours reduce; dress warmly and check opening times.
