How Kids-Friendly is Sydney Whale Watching Cruise?

Children over four get lifejackets and lively marine-biologist talks, yet ocean swell may cause sickness and there are no play areas, so parents must supervise and pack entertainment.

Considerations for visiting Sydney Whale Watching Cruise (with kids)

Positives:

  • Whale-sighting Guarantee: Most operators offer a free return trip if no whales are seen, ensuring value for families.
  • Family-friendly Amenities: Onboard restrooms, booster seats and a kids’ menu (on lunch cruises) keep little ones comfortable.
  • Photo Opportunities: Open-air decks and clear sightlines let you capture whales breaching with the Harbour Bridge backdrop.

Challenges:

  • Sea Motion: The open ocean can be choppy; bring motion-sickness remedies if your children are prone to seasickness.
  • Weather Exposure: Decks are exposed to wind and sun; pack sunscreen, hats and warm layers to stay protected.

Recommended visit duration: 2-3 hours

Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows time for harbour landmarks and an open-ocean whale search without wearing out children.

Brilliant! Grew captain and crew. Very informative and fun. Saw loads of whales on a beautiful sunny day. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Likely going again in 3 weeks with our interstate visitors. A big thank you to you all!

This was the most amazing experience. The skipper gave everybody the option to pull out due to the roughness of the sea which I found very thoughtful. The trip was excellent, and the commentary was very informative. The whales put on the most amazing show for us and all in all I would be very happy to recommend this experience to anyone. Thanks for a memory of a lifetime.

Our morning whale-watching cruise with Fantasea Cruising was absolutely breathtaking! We spotted three whales in total, including a playful calf that put on a spectacular show. The boat was comfortable with great viewing decks. The only minor dow...

Finally I could say I watched real whales in the ocean. Breathtaking view however, so no attempt it if you suffer from sea sickness. The tour was seamless and hospitality was good
