Lower-island sealed paths, island-wide change tables and high-chair hire suit prams, but ferry gaps, rough upper surfaces and lack of a quiet nursing room mean carers need extra time and equipment.
Why 3-4 hours visit duration is ideal for with baby: Gives time to explore pram-friendly paths, picnic spots and a free talking object tour at a relaxed pace.
Pram-friendly lower island trails:
Walk the sealed paths linking the Visitor Centre, Convict Precinct and Biloela House.
Tip: Bring a sturdy all-terrain pram and pick up a free trail map at the Visitor Centre.
Northern Apron Park picnic:
Use flat BBQ facilities and tables overlooking the harbour.
Tip: Arrive early to secure a shaded spot and bring easy-to-serve snacks for the baby.
Interactive Talking Object & Animal Tour:
Scan turquoise “Hello” signs on the lower island to hear historic stories.
Tip: Use your phone’s QR reader and pause at each station to rest with your baby in the stroller.
Café break at Cockatoo Overboard:
Indoor and outdoor seating next to accessible paths.
Tip: Order a flat white or pastry and park your stroller nearby.
Baby-change facilities:
Free change tables in every main toilet block on both levels.
Tip: Locate facilities close to the Visitor Centre or near Marina Café & Bar for convenience.

Had a brilliant day out at Cockatoo Island with family and friends! We grabbed a map and went on the stamp hunt—once we collected all six, we got a fun little sticker as a reward. Such a great way to explore the place! Tried the cheeseburger there and it was absolutely delicious. There were other food options like pizza and a few food trucks, though they were a bit pricey. Loved that there was a s...

We took the short ferry trip from Barangaroo to a less crowded spot in Sydney Harbour. The remnants of this penal colony provide a stark contrast with modern architecture and skyscrapers across the waters. The establishment and grounds are well-preserved and worth an easy two hour stroll following the trail on visitor map. Audio commentary is available.

Apparently the...

It’s a beautiful place for a day trip with friends and family. There are only two cafes, so would recommend grabbing snacks and bites for the little ones if required or simply purchase from there. Great amount of history.

Walking around the island, I could see remnants of its past as a shipyard and prison, which added to its charm. The open spaces and picnic areas were perfect for relaxing, and the harbour views were stunning. It’s also a great spot for camping or just a day tr...
