The Art Gallery of Western Australia | AGWA (couple trip)

The gallery itself isn’t very large and the exhibitions themselves are quite small. At the time of writing there was the Cast In Bronze exhibition which had some interesting pieces, Elise Blumann exhibition, Balancing Act exhibition and the Revivification exhibition all quite small and none that I would say are must see’s. Greatcoat place to spend the day looking at art and learning about the art landscape of WA. Bonus points for the friendly staff and the great contemporary art exhibition. Revivification is a must see.

Having recently lived in Brisbane, Canberra and the ACT, I will be honest and say that I find the AGWA underwhelming compared to what you’d expect from a state gallery The layout feels sparse, and while the Indigenous collection is important, the rest kinda lacks depth. The building itself is nice though.

A must-see while in Perth. Adjacent to the train station and easy to access. AGWA has a wonderful collection of Aboriginal, regional Australian, and modern art. I thoroughly enjoyed the guided tour and wandering around solo.

An easy way to spend an hour or so. The museum has a range of artworks. Head to the rooftop to see a range of sculptures and art installations. A beautiful view over the city too. Heading down you can stop and admire the range of art work from both Australian and foreign artists.
