Positives:

  • Lifeguard patrol: Regular lifeguard coverage keeps the shallow swim zone safe for babies.
  • Pram-friendly paths: Flat esplanade and beach matting (Jan–Apr) make stroller walks easy.
  • Nearby facilities: Public toilets, showers, picnic tables, and BBQs are all free and close by.

Challenges:

  • No private change rooms: Beach shelters and surf-club change rooms are communal; pack a portable changing mat.
  • Strong surf on rough days: Waves can get big outside the flagged zone; stick to the south end near the pier.
  • Variable matting dates: Beach-access matting is installed Jan 2–Apr 14 only; check current dates before visiting.

A beautiful town with an amazing beach. Very nice place to have picnics (just be careful of the cockatoos) and a good stroll with your dogs. They provide plastic bags for your dog's poop, and I find that very considerate for the community.
