How Baby-Friendly is Australian Open?

What makes it 81% Baby-Friendly: Babies enter free and Parents’ Rooms, change tables and pram-friendly paths help carers, but arena noise, lap-only seating and pram cloaking make extended match watching tiring.

Positives:

  • Free baby entry: Children under 2 enter free when seated on a lap.
  • Retractable roofs: Rod Laver, Margaret Court and John Cain arenas close roofs if weather is extreme.
  • Pram-friendly shuttles: Low-floor buses between Car Park D and the precinct carry prams at no charge.

Challenges:

  • High summer heat: Temperatures can exceed 35 °C in midday.
  • Arena noise: Crowd cheers can startle babies; bring noise-cancelling covers.
  • Pram restrictions: Prams are not allowed in arena seating; use cloak areas.

This wasn't just a tennis tournament; it was a bloody spectacle. A full-blown, two-week-long party where the dress code was "sunscreen and enthusiasm." The atmosphere? Electric. Like sticking a fork in a live wire, but in a good way. The roar of the crowd, the thwack of the ball, the sheer energy of the place... it was intoxicating. Even if you don't know your forehand from your backhand, you cou...

Whilst the main event is always watching the players on these blue courts at the Australian Open, there's so much else going on around the entire Melbourne Park grounds too during the Open, as you can see from the pics I'm sharing from the event this year. It's an absolutely amazing event, done well.

Australian Open in Melbourne Olympic Park best time and place of excitement to watch the match of your favourite tennis player. Good public transport, very close to City areas, plenty of food to enjoy and drinks. Highly recommended for any event. It’s a great place to visit.

Fantastic experience at the Australian Open for 2025... excellent management, impeccable organization and a nice atmosphere to spend an afternoon with friends. High prices as normal for events like this but you don't go there every day so it's acceptable in the end. Unusually, I found the prices for live matches fair, when I thought they would cost more, excellent inspiration for the future ✌️

Amazing place to watch tennis, great atmosphere. The price of food & drinks at centre exorbitant, as expected. They open all cans at the bar before leaving and wont give you a tray so make sure you have help if ordering more than a few. Tip, you can take your own drink or food in a small bag but expect bag checks.

When is the best time to visit Australian Open (Melbourne, Australia)?

January can be very hot. Use shaded areas and indoor arenas with retractable roofs during peak heat. Hydrate often.
