Children up to 12 can join free holiday art days and interact with large installations, yet abstract works, no play zone, and no kids' menu mean parents may need to keep visits short.
Why 1-2 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Provides enough time to explore galleries, spot public art, and join a short workshop without tiring kids.
Explore Four Exhibition Spaces:
Roam the four large gallery halls showcasing international and Australian contemporary art.
Tip: Use gallery labels to spark kids’ questions and set a 15-minute fun fact challenge per gallery.
Pose by the “Vault” Sculpture:
Discover Ron Robertson-Swann’s iconic yellow steel work outside the building.
Tip: Let each child strike a funny pose and take family photos from different angles.
Join the Sunday “Art in Focus” Tour:
Attend a free 30-minute guided tour every Sunday at 3 pm.
Tip: Arrive 10 minutes early to grab seats and ask the guide to highlight kid-friendly artworks.
Family Art Day Workshop:
Drop-in art-making sessions for kids aged 3–10 during school holidays.
Tip: Pre-register online, bring an old shirt for paint, and plan 30 extra minutes for creative play.
Interact with Touch-Friendly Installations:
Engage with sound, light, and large-scale works designed for all ages.
Tip: Ask staff which current pieces allow hands-on interaction before heading in.

Free entry but paid meter parking outside for upto 3 hours. Small museum but good art here. Recommended when you have an hour of time and are in and around this area.

I recently visited the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA) and I was impressed. The atmosphere was vibrant, and the exhibitions were fascinating. The artworks on display were varied and thought-provoking. The staff was welcoming and available to answer any questions i had. Overall, it was a rewarding experience that I would recommend to any contemporary art enthusiasts.

Thought provoking gallery showcasing Australian artists. Although i struggled to understand one of the exhibits, the plaques on the wall were very informative. My favourite installation was one decided of pulleys and charcoal and it created art on the way that was constantly evolving. It's not a big place, but well worth a visit. You can also tap and donate as well.
