Children are allowed and lifts make prams easy, but there is no play zone, museum display or hands-on activity, so most kids tire fast. Toilets exist yet no child-height basins or entertainment.

Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows time to stroll the arcades, view the clock tower, pause for snacks and spot street art without rushing.
Stroll the heritage arcades:
Walk under the GPO’s grand Renaissance-Revival arches and admire its original tiled floors.
Tip: Have kids count the marble columns or spot the ornate ceiling patterns.
Photo spot at the pink purse sculpture:
Find Simon Perry’s giant pink purse outside the H&M entrance for a fun family photo.
Tip: Line up the kids under the purse strap for a playful shot.
Explore Postal Lane street art:
Turn into Postal Lane beside the GPO to see hidden murals and heritage signboards.
Tip: Print a simple art-hunt list so kids can tick off each mural.
Snack break at Federal Coffee:
Grab coffee and kid-friendly toasties from A$12 at the cafe under the arches.
Tip: Sit on the outdoor benches; kids can spill and it’s easy to clean.

The General Post Office (GPO) in Melbourne on the corner of Bourke street mall & Elizabeth st. Built between 1861-1907, this historical general post office is still used as a point of reference for the measure of distances from the centre of Melbourne. A beautiful place to take photos & or just to sit & listen to the street musicians.

Use to get stamps, send packages and buy commemorative stamps here. I didn't realize that this grand old dame had a big makover. Still pretty as ever with her quarterly hour and hourly notes still chiming.
