What a lovely church and glorious stained glass windows, depicting creation from a Biblical, scientific, and Australian/ aboriginal perspective in a manner that focuses on nature and wonder. Wonderful Easter Saturday night vigil at St. Monica's Cathedral, Cairns, North Australia. After the Battle of Coral Sea destroyed Australia's North Coast, St Monica's was rebuilt with 56 glorious ceiling to floor stained glass windows of the Creation. Last is the "Peace Window' of the wreckage which covered the Pacific after the war - that it never happen again.
In Cairns’ wet season (Nov–Apr), use the cathedral’s shaded interior to escape afternoon showers; in the dry season (May–Oct), pair your visit with a morning city walking tour.
