What makes it 61% Kids-Friendly: Older children can join print workshops or a free family tour, and staff can suggest art hunts. Lack of play zones or hands-on stations for under-8s means active kids may tire quickly.
Why 1-2 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: A visit of 1–2 hours lets your family explore galleries, join a quick tour, or enjoy a print workshop without tiring younger kids.
Gallery scavenger hunt:
Wander through changing exhibitions and spot specific motifs or colors.
Tip: Ask staff for a simple scavenger list to engage both younger and older kids.
Family-friendly print workshop:
Try block printing or lino-cut classes designed for families.
Tip: Book online at least a week ahead and confirm age limits for your 3-year-old.
Guided family tour:
Enjoy a free, kid-paced tour highlighting colorful works and print demos.
Tip: Email hello@northsite.org.au one week before to reserve your spot.
Kid-friendly gift shop browse:
Choose small prints, stickers or postcards by local artists.
Tip: Set a souvenir budget of AUD 5–20 per child to keep costs in check.

I'm embarrassed to admit as a local i haven't visited this space before and it was like finding a gem! The shop space is beautifully curated and full of wonderful local artist's jewellery and art pieces. The exhibitions were wonderful. Highly recommend a visit.

Modern, Contemporary, Colourful. No other patrons there when I visited. Gallery shop was also very good and had many art pieces for sale. Another good Cairns gallery not to be missed

I always visit this gallery when I visit Cairns and the latest visit was on Friday, 1st of April when my partner and I were warmly greeted by a lovely staff member. The quality of artworks for sale in the art store are of a very high calibre and exhibitions are beautifully and professionally presented for the public to enjoy. A must-see when in Cairns!
Visit on weekday mornings or school terms to avoid crowds and heat. Check school-holiday programs for extra workshops.
