  • Gentle beaches: Alma Bay and Picnic Bay have shallow water perfect for babies.

Challenges:

  • No dedicated change rooms: Public toilets lack built-in baby tables—bring a portable mat.
  • Midday heat: Sand and playground equipment get hot—plan shade and rest breaks.

Lovely island to visit for the day from Townsville, QLD. Great walks to see wild Koala, perfect little cafe's to get snacks, coffee and an ice-cream. Head to the port to see rock walllaby's too. Well worth a visit.

An authentic, peaceful “island” feel! It has a very genuine “unspoilt” island vibe, with some trendy vibes. Beach markets, good food, incredible seafood, scooters and jeeps, hiking, fishing, snorkeling and incredible sunsets!! Very secluded with 78% national park so no shortage of beautiful terrain!!

Highly recommend a long weekend. Easy to get around - very well kept busses that take card. You’ll see koalas on your hikes. The beaches are beautiful - check out Radical Bay. The people are lovely and most are open for a chat.
