We took the scenic railway from Karanda down to Freshwater station and loved it. Very friendly staff who were happy to reseat us so that we didn't have to travel backwards in the corner of the carriage. Great experience, very beautiful scenery, which my photographs don't quite capture.

We loved this. Taking the railway to Kuranda was absolutely fun, with great views along the way. A relaxing and enjoyable experience and a nice way to see the rainforest.

My wife and I took the Kuranda trip on Saturday 13 Dec 2025. This was our second trip following excellent trip in 2022. Our trip on the 9:30am heritage class ticket from Cairns to Kuranda station was very good. The ride was smooth and faultless. Due to extended period of little rain the railway track, rainforest floor was dry and water fall was trickling with little water. It was hot and humid day...

A wonderful trip to Kuranda. We were fortunate to get Gold pass at the last moment. It was very relaxing with drink and morning/afternoon tea service. Very comfy lounge seating. Would recommend 👌

Great train ride, good views and at the scenic locations the train even slows down to enjoy the views! The combination of train ride and the gondola is not cheap, but its an unique experience with a rich history.
Travel May–October for lower rain risk and cooler temperatures. In wet season (Nov–Apr), pack a rain cover and check service updates.
