Couples get sunrise or sunset views from Australia’s most easterly point, quiet lawns for picnics, and a short guided tour; however parking is limited and pricey at busy times.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for couple trip: Allows time for a coastal walk, lantern room tour, picnic and wildlife spotting without rushing.
Sunrise or Sunset Viewing:

Tip: Wear sturdy shoes, bring water, and start at The Pass for easier parking.
Lighthouse Lantern Room Tour:
Join a 20-minute guided climb to the top for 360° ocean and hinterland panoramas.
Tip: Tours run daily 10 am–3 pm; bring a gold coin donation for local volunteers.
Whale and Dolphin Spotting:
Scan the ocean for humpback whales from June to November and dolphins year-round.
Tip: Use binoculars or the free spotting scope near the museum for better views.
Picnic on the Lighthouse Lawn:
Relax on the grassy headland with local wine and cheese overlooking the sea.
Tip: Bring a blanket, snacks, and avoid sitting too close to the fence on windy days.

The visitors that we took up there were so surprised at what a stunning view it is from up there. We spotted dolphins and humpback whales and were mesmerised by the stunning scenery. There’s a cafe up there too, with some parking at the top. We parked down the hill a bit and enjoyed the walk up.

The most amazing memory I had in Byron Bay! It takes about an hour to walk, so I recommend bringing a bottle of water. If you’re lucky, you might spot whales or dolphins. I didn’t see any up close, but I did catch lots of whale splashes in the distance.
