How Baby-Friendly is Victoria Square?

72%Baby-Friendly
View Map

What makes it 72% Baby-Friendly: Wide paved paths suit strollers and a 24-hour toilet offers a baby change bench, yet there is no dedicated nursing room and noisy festivals may overstimulate infants; verify event times first.

Positives:

  • Ease of access: Wide, flat paths make pushing a stroller simple.
  • Nearby facilities: Public toilets with baby change table in the North Quadrant.

Challenges:

  • Limited shade midday: Few tree-shaded spots near the center; bring a sunshade or umbrella.
  • Crowds during events: Community events can fill benches; arrive early to secure seating.

We visited this square to catch the free trams and look around. There are nice greens with a view of the post office. There is a detailed statue of Queen Victoria and a modern fountain. A nice bit of green in the middle of the city.

Attended a Multicultural Festival held in the parkland of Victoria Square. There were plenty of stall holders, dances, activities and general family fun on the day.

This square was established in 1854 and named after England's Queen Victoria. It was planned by Colonel William Light as he sited and laid out the City of Adelaide. The Square was redeveloped between 2012 and 2014 and now plays host to a number of different events and activities. The fountain at the southern end represents the three rivers which supply Adelaide with water - the Murray, the Torren...

Location for Tasting Australia, beautiful use of the square. Fountains, lights, music ...it was stunning. A great variety of food vendors, ranging from fried chicken, pork belly lollipops, Thai sweet potato donuts and Vegemite soft serve. Would have liked more seating/tables though, made it exceptionally difficult to enjoy the delicious range of food and drinks.

When is the best time to visit Victoria Square (Adelaide, Australia)?

In summer (Dec–Jan), enjoy free live music and the Giant Christmas Tree lighting. In winter (Jul–Aug), join Poolside Promenade kids’ crafts under the Dome.
