What makes it 93% Kids-Friendly: Fenced inclusive playground, lake ducks, BBQs and accessible toilets offer hours of safe play for under-12s; bring spare clothes for water play and supervise near water but risk remains low.
Why 2–3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: This allows time to explore the inclusive playground, picnic, lake walk and a quick treasure hunt without rushing younger children.
Quentin Kenihan Inclusive Playspace:
Fenced playspace with sensory garden, water play features, swings, carousel and wheelchair trampoline.
Tip: Visit early to secure a shaded table nearby and watch kids play on soft-fall surfaces.
Picnic and BBQ Area:
Built-in barbecues, picnic tables and open lawns close to the playground.
Tip: Bring charcoal and cooking tools; set up under nearby trees so adults can supervise easily.
Pond Wildlife Spotting:
Spot ducks, waterbirds and fish around the lake island bridge.
Tip: Bring bird-safe seed (avoid bread) and have children stay behind the low safety barrier.
Statue and Fountain Treasure Hunt:
Find the small bronze Alice statue and the Piccanniny drinking fountain on winding paths.
Tip: Turn it into a game by drawing a simple map or using your phone to guide kids to each landmark.
Rowboat Hire:
Paddle around the lake in a rowboat from the kiosk when it’s open.
Tip: Call ahead to confirm kiosk status; always fit life-vests properly on children.

Such a gorgeous spot right in the middle of the city—easy to get to, whether you're walking from the East End or parking nearby. The lake, the bridges, the little rose garden—they all make it a favourite for both lunch breaks and photo walks. Just a heads up: there’s often temporary fencing for events, which can get in the way of the view or a peaceful loop, but it’s still well worth a visit.

I can only judge the park for the Fringe. It’s a nice relaxed atmosphere where you can sit down relax have a bite to eat drin and watch great shows

Had a great time at the show (Adults Only Magic Show), full of laughs and innuendo, a bit raunchy at times but all in fun. Disappointed that drink venue nearby was card only, because of that we didn't try any other vendors. Highly recommend the show we went to, tickets received thanks to South Aussie with Cosi who always delivers for his fans

Fresh air and sunshiny place! Fantastic view of the lake and duckies enjoying themselves. You could have picnics and lazy afternoons resting on the open grass areas. A favourite place for Gluttony during the Adelaide Fringe Festival!

Love this park on the east side of Adelaide city. Has a nice vibe, excellent paths for walking or riding. Good amenities and fun playground for the kids. I used to take my children here and we’d go on the row boats. Sad to see that Joe is no longer there as he ran such a welcoming & friendly business.
In February–March visit during Adelaide Fringe to catch free kids’ street shows and workshops at ‘Gluttony’. In spring (Sept–Nov), stroll the Rose Garden when roses bloom at child height.
